Data & attribution
Where Solwise's business data comes from, what it keeps, and what it deliberately leaves out.
Where the data comes from
Live searches use OpenStreetMap's Overpass API. The data is © OpenStreetMap contributors and is available under the Open Database License (ODbL). Every saved record keeps its OpenStreetMap id, a link to its page and an attribution notice.
What Solwise saves
The business name, its category, an address if one is listed, a website if one is listed, its coordinates, the OpenStreetMap id and the original record as received. Nothing is invented: if OpenStreetMap does not list a field, Solwise shows it as not provided. Phone numbers and email addresses are not collected.
How searches behave
A search runs only when you click Discover Businesses. Each click sends one request for at most 10 businesses in one fixed area, with a timeout and a size limit, and Solwise waits 5 seconds between live searches. There is no background crawling.
Saving, duplicates and changes
Results are saved through Solwise's ingestion pipeline. Running the same search again does not create duplicates: businesses already saved are shown as previously known. If OpenStreetMap later lists different details for a saved business, the saved record is kept as it is and the difference is queued for review. Businesses that look alike are flagged, never merged automatically.
Live data and sample data
Live shows real OpenStreetMap data. Sample data shows fictional businesses created by Solwise, needs no internet connection and is stored in a separate database file so it can never mix with real results.
What this version does not do
It does not score or rank businesses, diagnose their marketing, or contact anyone. Your own uploads need an account and stay private to it. Business search is paused for now.
